OUR VISION

FFMCVV envisions a humane society, where people of all colors are treated with dignity and respect and can live in a community free from fear and violence.

OUR MISSION

FFMCVV is dedicated to supporting individuals and families who have lost a loved one to homicide or other acts of violence; to promoting violence awareness, reduction, prevention and to advocating for victim’s rights and the rights of survivors.

HISTORY

Founded in 1991 by Mrs. Audrey Smith, FFMCVV provides support services to individuals and families who reside in Monroe County and surrounding counties who have experienced a loss or are victims of violence. We also provide services that aid in reducing and preventing violence and lead to safer communities.

An act of violence has many victims, including those directly involved as well as the broader community. When they occur, the impact often seems unbearable. It takes great strength, support, and courage to overcome the challenges faced by victims and their families. FFMCVV can help individuals and families find the support resources they need in a manner that is informative, encouraging, and sensitive to the needs of those seeking assistance.

SERVICES OFFERED

911 Emergency Response Requests: Staff responds to 911 dispatch calls when requested. Staff and volunteers aid emergency response personnel in supporting families and friends that are at the scene of a crime. We are available to accompany family members to medical facilities, medical examiners offices, or police stations. This introduction serves as the start of a relationship and acknowledges our willingness to offer help.

Extended Support: Follow-up services including home visits, telephone calls, informational mailings, and announcements are conducted by staff and volunteers. Information and referral services that offer information on grief counseling services, emergency assistance for basic needs, funeral arrangements, and a host of other resources are also available. Our network of committed organizations and individuals is ready to help.

Court Watch: Staff can assist in transportation to court hearings and in accessing services offered by the Monroe County District Attorney’s office and other legal professionals who are familiar with the judicial process.

Support Groups and Counseling: Survivors, family members, and concerned individuals meet bi-monthly to share information, network, and offer support to each other. The program maintains a Speakers Bureau which often assists in facilitating meetings, addressing concerns, and mobilizing community anti-violence efforts. Attendance at prayer vigils, funerals, hospital visits, and public awareness events are among the program's other support functions.

Violence Prevention Initiatives: Individuals, schools, and organizations may access counseling and training information and resources that address issues such as anger management, conflict resolution, mental health, safety, and topics that promote anti-violence, citizenship, and peace.

Volunteer, Community, and Faith Partnerships: FFMCVV staff members serve on a variety of committees and task force groups dedicated to strengthening our community. It is our sincere belief that TOGETHER we can make a difference.
